Elementary Mathematics
WCPS MATHEMATICS VISION: All WCPS students have the right to be confident and proficient mathematicians. Through evidence-based instructional practices, all students will develop deep understandings, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
WCPS mathematics instruction is grounded in a problem-based approach where students are guided by their teacher as active participants, both individually and in groups, in solving problems. WCPS uses the Maryland College and Career-Readiness Standards (MCCRS) for mathematics to guide instruction. The MCCRS include eight (8) Standards for Mathematical Practice. These practices are applicable in grades Kindergarten through high school and are developed over time in coordination with grade level mathematics content and in support of the WCPS Mathematics Vision.
