High School Interscholastic Athletics

Interscholastic athletics is an integral part of the high school student’s total educational experience. WCPS students have opportunities to participate in 19 sports with 28 teams in a gender-balanced program.

The WCPS athletic program operates under the jurisdiction of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

All WCPS high schools also compete in the MPSSAA District 1, which includes public high schools from Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett and Washington Counties. MPSSAA District 1 winners advance through the West Region in their respective school classification tournaments that conclude in state championships.

WCPS Senior Citizen "Gold Card" Admission

If you are 60 years of age or older, you are eligible for a Gold Card:

The Gold Card entitles you to FREE admission to all regular season athletic events and school-sponsored activities in Washington County Public Schools, except this card does not provide admission to Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) regional and state athletic playoff games, BISFA ticketed performances, or WCPS events that include a meal.
Admission to events/activities is on a space-available basis, and each card is valid only for the person in whose name it is issued

You may obtain a gold card by entering your information in the Gold Card Application Google form and a gold card will be mailed to your address.

You may obtain a gold card by printing out the application Gold Card Application Form and return the application to any WCPS High School OR mail the completed form to:
