Illness Outbreaks in Schools
The health, safety, and wellbeing of our students is essential to their learning. When WCPS is notified of an illness outbreak in our schools, we will inform our learning communities and update the tracker included below. This keeps all individuals informed and aware of these cases.
Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) works closely with the Washington County Health Department regarding illness outbreaks that occur in our schools. The Health Department is the organization that reviews the cases and determines if there is an outbreak.
School Health staff monitors student illness based on guidelines from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH).
If your child becomes ill, we encourage you to share any symptoms or diagnoses with the Health Room staff at your child's school so we can maintain accurate tracking.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to monitor their children for symptoms. Please keep your child home if they’re sick. If your child develops symptoms, it is recommended you seek guidance from your healthcare provider. If you believe your child needs medical attention, follow up with their primary care doctor, urgent care, or your closest emergency room.
The health and safety of all students remains our highest priority. We will continue to stay in close communication with the Health Department and monitor the situation carefully. WCPS will share any important updates with families if needed.
