Birth to Kindergarten – Early Intervention

When it comes to developmental delays, the earlier the better. Consider contacting us if you are concerned because your child does not:

• Follow objects with their eyes
• Hold and play with toys
• Respond to noises
• Make sounds or talk
• Crawl or walk
• Pay attention to others or understand verbal direction

• 2 Months: Looks at faces, turns to sounds, coos, lifts and turns head when on stomach
• 4 Months: Smiles at people, brings hands to mouth, holds head steady
• 6 Months: RReaches for toys, rolls over in both directions, responds by making sounds, sits without support
• 8–9 Months: Crawls on hands and knees, plays Peek-a-boo, says “mama,” “baba,” and “dada”
• 10–11 Months: Pulls self to standing, waves “bye,” responds to name, stops when told “no no”
• 12–15 Months: Feeds self with fingers, says 4-5 words, walks alone, drinks from a cup
• 18 Months: Speaks 10 or more words, points to items wanted, feeds self with a spoon, turns pages in a book
• 2–3 Years: Plays with peers, begins dressing and undressing, uses 2-5 word sentences, completes 2-4 piece puzzles, plays make-believe, follows directions with at least 2 steps, walks up and down stairs, jumps in place

BIRTH–3 YEARS:

• Demonstrates 25% delay or more in one or more areas of development
• Diagnosed condition placing the child at risk for delay
• Demonstrates atypical development

AGES 3–5 YEARS:

• The local Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Team determines eligibility based on Federal guidelines
