Restricting Access to Content on Student Devices

WCPS Policy and Procedures
To comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and Board policy, WCPS uses internet filters to block abusive, obscene, offensive, threatening, sexually explicit, pornographic, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate material that may be harmful to minors. The filter works by categorizing websites and restricting access to categories considered inappropriate for students, such as alcohol or gambling. Because of the vast number of websites online, some sites may occasionally be categorized incorrectly. When a site is blocked, users will see a message showing the site’s URL and its assigned category.

If you notice your student is able to access a site you believe is inappropriate, please contact the school. Staff can review the site and, if necessary, request that it be re-evaluated.
