Chromebook Care

WCPS Issued Chromebooks

Your Chromebook is an important learning tool. Taking good care of it helps you stay connected, protect your work, and keep the device working for everyone. Follow these safe handling and general tips every day:

Safe Handling

  • Handle the keyboard gently — don’t press keys too hard or pick at them.
  • Make sure all objects are out of the way before closing the lid.
  • Always close the lid completely before carrying or transporting your Chromebook.
  • Never lift it by the screen — always carry it from the bottom.
  • Carry it with two hands when walking in the hallway or classroom.
  • Don’t put heavy items (books, supplies, etc.) on top of the Chromebook.
  • If you store your Chromebook in a bag, remove it before putting the bag away.

General Tips

  • Charge your Chromebook fully each night so it’s ready for school.
  • Do not place foreign objects into the Chromebook’s ports. Cords, cables, and removable storage devices (e.g. thumb drives) must be inserted carefully into the appropriate port on the Chromebooks. Be careful when inserting and removing cords, cables, and external devices..
  • Keep pets away from your Chromebook and charger.
  • Clean the screen with a dry microfiber or anti-static cloth only.
  • Don’t put stickers or decorations on the Chromebook.
  • Don’t remove or tamper with the school-issued tags or labels.

Keep all food and drinks away from your device. If liquid spills into the Chromebook, unplug it immediately. Do not plug the device back in until it is thoroughly dry.

Extra Chromebook Tips

  • Log out when you’re done using your Chromebook.
  • Don’t share your password with anyone, even friends.
  • Use only school-approved extensions and apps.
  • Restart your Chromebook regularly to keep it running smoothly and updated.
  • Report any problems right away — if your Chromebook isn’t working correctly, tell a teacher or a school administrator.
